Day 65 - Off Grid campsite to Hanmer Springs

To say that last night was chilly is an understatement. The ground was pitted and uneven, and the wind whistled through the pylon on the hill nearby. No time to grizzle about it, there’s walking to be done!

We planned to get to Hanmer by midday. A distance of 15k through Jacks Pass.

I had a fleeting thought to get two Weetbix stat attack rugby cards from our empty cereal box. Could I get them back to Mike and Neil at the toll gate? They were into their AB rugby. Lomax and Clarke were the two All Black cards. Now it was just a case of getting a courier who was willing and able. On the fourth attempt we struck it lucky. A couple from the Peel Forest area were heading through. They took the cards on our behalf. I would have loved to see the look on Mike and Neil’s faces.

True to form by midday we were munching on bakery kai in Hanmer. By early afternoon our campsite was set and we were at the Hot Pools.

Karl enjoyed practicing staples and manus in the deep end of the big pool. The waterslides provided some wild rides!

Sleep should be bliss tonight.

Beanie time!
First light on the mountain tops.
Can you spot our tent?
The sign to Hanmer.
Hanmer in site.
The hills to the south.
Hanmer Springs provided a soak for aching bodies and a thrilling ride on a waterslide.
